To celebrate the 25th game, MERIT 2015 will be the biggest yet, with a large international participation, and the Senior Vice President of ICE Sir John Armitt will attend the final to award the winner with the ICE's Silver Salver and grand prize of £2,500.

MERIT 2015 will start with the first submission on February 11th, for which preliminary information will be provided on February 4th. The other submission dates are February 18th and 25th, March 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th and April 1st. The top six teams will be invited to the final taking place in the Department of Civil and Building Engineering, Loughborough University on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th April.

Trialling of the simulation will be available from January. Trialling is available for teams to learn about the simulation and the underlying concepts of company and financial management. Trialling prepares teams for the real MERIT competition. MERIT as a training vehicle is supported by a searchable tutorial, available after registration.

International spread

Over the years MERIT has attracted a truly global intake of participants, with teams from more than 240 companies internationally having competed so far, from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, South Africa, India, UAE, The Netherlands, Poland, France, Germany, Belgium, Ireland, and the USA, as well as from the UK.

 

Major industry involvement

Every household name in the construction industry has sent teams, too many to list here with all the consulting engineers and contractors, but participant intake has come from

  • major players such as Atkins, Mott MacDonald, Arup, Parsons Brinkerhoff, Jacobs, Mouchel, Balfour Beatty, AECOM and Hyder Consulting, sponsoring between 50 and 230 teams amongst them
  • international companies including Hong Kong's MTR, Atkins Hong Kong, AURECON and Calibre Projects and
  • local authorities such as Caerphilly Council, Camaerthenshire County Council, Wessex Engineering and Guernsey Department of Engineering.

 

Leading companies/organisations

Leading the winners league table are Arup with three Championship winning teams (18 employees) and two Sponsors Awards, followed by Halcrow with three Championships, Mott MacDonald with two Championships and two Sponsors Awards and Atkins with one Championship and three Sponsors Awards.
Other winners recording a single win include consulting engineers, contractors, local authorities and a university team from Glasgow University. The international winners so far are Calibre Projects, Perth, Australia and MTR Hong Kong.
